Short Free Verse 1

Mirror

Mirror, Mirror
     'round my soul,
Who is it
     that you behold?
Is it me
     or is it you,
That you've stuck
     your knives into?

Winter Tree

Lace
framing moonglow and starlight.
Cobwebs
enduring through heavy snowfall.
Intracacies
defining selfhood against the sky.

Watcher

Come sweet stillness
wash over me;
Run silent fingers
through my hair.
The weight
of the earth is there,
side by side
with the moving air.

Watch with me,
immobile;
silent siren song
tracked to her lair.
No fear is here,
no need to move;
At one with my beloved,
eternal pair.

Pucca

There is a pucca striding beside me
     Unshod hoofbeats ringing on tarmac.
I cannot see him
     but I know his form ----
Blacker than the night I walk through
     heavy muscle
          feathered feet
I know the whisper of his name in the wind ----
     Monarch ----
          for the Monarch he is
And I love him.
     I lift my own dark head to his
           and let the breeze braid our ebon manes
Our unshod hoofbeats
     Ring.

Dragon's Flight

The dragon in my soul
     stretchs,
          taking flight.
Awesome in power and
     swift;
          I am freedom.
In my palm I hold the
     key,
          creativity to be unleashed.
Let me help you break the
     spell,
          the crystal prison binding you.
Come with me as I
     soar,
          transcending earth and sky.

Snowfall

Softly
     Slowly
Quietly, I come
     Raise your arms to me
     Let me embrace you
I will speak to you of gentleness
I will share with you my mysteries
     Imprint me with your presence
     But...
Softly
     Slowly
Don't break the spell.

Phoenix

     Rising out of fire
Straining wings fill with air;
               Burnt ash
                    to
               Golden feathers;

     Strength reborn:
          Unbound.

Lost

How far down that lonely road you've gone ---
     I see only the shadow
          of what you used to be.
I tried to light a candle;
     Could you see the flame?

No.
     Too late.

Now only the wind whispers your name.
