Rain - Left Click for Enlargement
Rain
Watercolor   18" x 24"

Some backstory goes with this piece. It is a sideways fore-runner to the ink painting, "Beware of Cliffs: Loss", which you find in the Conceptual 3 room of the gallery. When I was held within Cliff's ultra-authority, he had me burn all of my notes, books, glaze research...everything that smacked of education. When I got free of his webs, that was the thing that hurt for the longest period of time. I could rebuild my selfhood...but the tangible items from my past where irrevocably gone. This piece grew out of the sense of loss, but also was a way in which to "return the favor", burning the last vestiges of the damage he caused, and then moving on.

Morning Mare - Left Click for Enlargement
Morning Mare
Oil   30" x 40"

I live in a glorious area of the US, a place which does not seem to recognize it's own potential, lol. In just a relatively small area you have something for practically everyone...beautiful beaches for swimming, sailing, rolling hills and woodlands, ski runs for winter fun, and some of the best sunsets in the continental United States. It also has great places to paint! One spring morning I took my watercolors out to the Lake and got thoroughly soaked in misting rain... The watercolor didn't survive, but the sights and feel of the morning did. This painting grew out of that... Aurora was the Greek goddess of the morning, and here I envision her as a mare made of the morning mist and dawn colors, melting back into the vapors as the sun rises over the bay.

Technically speaking, this was the first oil that I have done in which I had used glazing techniques which (finally!) seemed to work just right, giving me the feel and look I was after.

I'll Stick My Neck Out & Be Different
Photograph   8" x 10"

Oh geeeze.....ROFL...What can I say but that this photo encapsulates me pretty well. Long before I ever got into exploring ultra-authority and personal authority, I was an individualist. Never did run with any crowd... It always seemed that I would be going one way while they went another...and yeah, my feathers may have had patterns and color that the other birds didn't have...and yeah, I could speak my mind on occassion.... and yeah, I stuck my neck out a lot. Hmmm....given this website's existence, it would seem that I'm still doing that, eh?

Hawks of War: Winds of Change - Left Click for Enlargement
Hawks of War: Winds of Change
Watercolor & Conté   18" x 24"
This is, in its essence, a fighting painting. Rather like the fighting songs sung by warriors going into battle in ages past, this is an expression that I am ready to give the blows as well as receive them. As John Denver's song says, "I am the Hawk and there's blood on my feathers, but time is still turning; they soon will be dry". I will also be the fierce autumn Wind of Change...Colors emblazoned in anger's hues, burning out evil with a paladin's might.

Okay, so perhaps I am a bit dramatic...but I would caution you if ever you think me unable or unwilling to carry through.
